Guideline-based suggestions
- Birth dose: hepatitis B should be given as soon as possible, ideally within the first 24 hours. Ask the birth facility about any missed dose.
- For a child with preterm birth, immune deficiency, prior allergic reaction or missed vaccinations, obtain an individualized pediatric schedule.
- A late vaccination does not mean you should give multiple vaccines yourself, repeat an entire series, or follow all overdue app dates without review.
- Minor injection-site pain or fever can occur; seek emergency assessment for breathing difficulty, collapse or signs of a severe allergic reaction after vaccination.
